The extra worth is worth the wait
I KNEW IT. I FUCKING. KNEW IT. I’ve almost bought Ableton’s Push 2 like 50 times over the last 5 years, and the tension has only grown recently as my desire to make Alice Coltrane Techno tracks has bloomed across my ribcage like a patch of chestnut mushrooms. But each time I would find my way to the checkout cart I’d stop myself, because I’d do the math on how many years it’s been since the Push 2 dropped (AD 2015) and remind myself that we were very due for a new one. Then I’d go look at Ableton’s website and socials and notice the quiet darkness populating its online pines related to hardware announcements. Then I’d click the little x in the chrome tab and go back to my Push-less oatmeal and slime and wait.
THAT IS, UNTIL THIS MORNING when I opened my phone at 5:45 or so and saw an overnight announcement from Ableton that the Push 3, actually just called the Push, had dropped. RAW JOY. DIRECT SUNLIGHT. ETC. This thing is so fucking sick and I can’t wait for mine to get here. I got the controller version so I have no need for it to be a standalone machine for now, but they also sell a DIY kit that will let you upgrade it to standalone at any point in the future if you want to. I won’t flood your basement with details but highlights include it doubling as an audio interface, allowing you to control external modular synths from its interface, and MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) support which is the sort of thing all dreams everywhere are made of. Let the games begin my good homies and happy Tuesday to us, every one in the strongest Tiny Tim voice possible.
